Our Team

The Sound Co-op started in 2015 as the brainchild of a post-work discussion — a vision for a sound mixing company that, through co-operation, could be a win for both production companies and for sound mixers themselves.

At its core then, and now, is the belief that together we can be stronger and better, that co-operation, not competition, would support better quality work for our clients, from booking to shooting to billing, and also foster camaraderie, mutual support, learning, growth, and change for ourselves as a team.

The founding board members worked for 2 years to build bylaws, internal operation, a financial and business plan - the infrastructure that is now The Sound Co-op - and incorporated as a Co-operative corporation.

Our #1 passion is to make sound easy for our clients. We use the best professionally-maintained equipment, and benefit from cooperative skills and knowledge. We have managers and administrators that handle business and technical aspects of our work, organize members' schedules, and have members recruit trainees and teach them skills often left to be learned on-the-go rather than in controlled environments.

The Sound Co-op also looks to be a positive force in the larger community of worker cooperatives and the movement for a more just and sustainable economy. The Sound Co-op is a manifestation of our belief that the future is co-operative.

The sound co-op has some of my favorite mixers that I’ve ever worked with. The level of professionalism is shared across their whole membership, so the quality of work you get from one of them, is the quality you’ll get from any of them and that’s an amazing resource. Sometimes we work with new people, because your first choice is unavailable and what this co-op does is offer you peace of mind, that whoever shows up will meet the standard you expect.

It's great that they can easily cover themselves for any range of dates. Because the co-op is so well staffed, I've never had them say they are unavailable. This is especially great in documentary environments when schedules can be unpredictable. I've worked on a range of documentary and branded content commercials with the co-op, and they’re always very professional. They take their jobs very seriously and always make me look good on documentary sets.

working with the sound co-op has been great. They are very professional and responsive and a pleasure to work with. I’ve worked with them on a number of our shows, such as “After Hours with Josh Horowitz”, “Night Pigeon” Featuring Roy Wood Jr, and “Addiction busters”. 100% would recommend them. You know the exact quality you’re getting every time you bring on a member of the co-op to your set. Their consistency is amazing and they are great additions to the set vibe.
